LABOR is a non governmental organization, founded in the 1981 in the port of Ilo that develops leaderships in environmental action, impulsing and articulating wills of the public and private spheres to achieve the sustainable development in local areas.

Its action is orientated to the development of capacities, promotion of the institutionalization of agreement spaces, to an incidental work for the formation of public policies and the formation and execution of sustainable development pilot projects.

The achieved evolution and prestige by labor are closely tied to the achieved changes in the city of Ilo since the 80’s. This city is known today as a center of one of the best management, agreement and sustainable development practices in a local area with few resources.

The Ilo experience has served Labor as a base for the elaboration of management strategies of the local development and of socio-environmental conflicts that could be applied in other locations of Peru. Precisely, to replicate these experiences in a “decision to grow” Labor sets off with its dreams and experiences to the cities of Moquegua, Arequipa Lima and Puno, impulsing the establishment of a new framework of relation between the mining sector, the environment and the local sustainable development based on the promotion of a cultural dialogue in the equality of conditions between its local actors.
